CHC was active as both a buyer and seller as the American yearling sales season got under way earlier this week at Fasig-Tipton’s prestigious Saratoga Select Sale.

CHC teamed up with Siena Farm and longtime partner–and top stud farm–WinStar Farm to acquire three colts. This trio also owns ‘TDN Rising Star’ and very promising juvenile colt Heartland.

The partnership between CHC and WinStar has been an exceptionally fruitful one with a long list of Grade I-winning colts headlined by Triple Crown winner and champion Justify and including Breeders’ Cup winner Life Is Good, champion Improbable, Audible, Americanrevolution and Yoshida.

During Tuesday’s sensational second session of the Saratoga sale, the group snagged a son of Into Mischief (Hip 208), sire of Life Is Good and Audible, for $1million. Like the sensational Life Is Good, this colt is out of a Distorted Humor mare.

The powerhouse partnership also signed the ticket on a $500,000 Practical Joke colt (Hip 145) and a $350,000 son of Good Magic (Hip 150), sire of this year’s GI Kentucky Derby winner Mage.

“The Saratoga Sale is the cream of the crop, making it is an extremely tough and competitive market to shop in,” said CHC Regional Manager of the Americas Christie DeBernardis.

“We were very happy to go home with three nice colts and look forward to their futures.

“Into Mischief speaks for himself and this partnership has enjoyed plenty of success with that sire. Good Magic is turning out to be one of the hottest young sires out there and Practical Joke is also doing quite well. These three colts are easy to be excited about.”

CHC also enjoyed success as a seller with a homebred filly out of their GI Frizette S. winner Yellow Agate. Consigned by top seller Taylor Made Sales, the daughter of Quality Road (Hip 225) summoned $650,000 from leading breeder Charlotte Weber of Live Oak Plantation.

The beautiful bay filly will be trained by Mark Casse and will join Weber’s broodmare band after her racing career.

“This filly is just beautiful and a different type than her siblings or your typical Quality Road,” DeBernardis said.

“She is racier and looks like she should run earlier like her mother. She is from a great, young family that is constantly improving and will make a lovely addition to Mrs. Weber’s broodmare band. We were thrilled with this sale. Mrs. Weber is one of the most well-respected breeders in the country and will give this filly a fantastic forever home.”
