Some of Australia’s most commercial broodmares joined the China Horse Club’s elite breeding program after a targeted and systematic buying foray at the opening day of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast.
The club’s Racing and Breeding Manager, Michael Wallace, fended off some of the biggest breeding operations from around the world to secure eight elite mares made up of six stakes winners and two daughters of elite families.
The eight new additions will support an arsenal of quality stallion interest across four major studs in Australia made up of Coolmore’s dynamic new additions Vancouver and Pride of Dubai; Vinery Australia’s exceptional Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement; Newgate Farm’s quartet Dissident, Deep Field, Wandjina and Super One; and Widden Stud’s outstanding Sebring.
“The focus of the China Horse Club is on elite performers for our racing program and also for our breeding program which has a growing stallion portfolio and needs quality mares to support it. The focus is very clearly on excellence,” said Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of the China Horse Club.
“The selection of mares secured today meets this criterion. There are six stakes winners among our new purchases including two G1 winners in Precious Gem and Pasadena Girl, G2 winner Atlantis Dream as well as Crystal Flute who hails from what is unquestionably one of the best families anywhere in the world. These mares will play an important role in our expanding breeding program which includes stallions and mares in Australia, Europe and the United States.”
New purchase Precious Gem will have her next start in the AUD1.5 million G1 Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane on 11th June having won the G1 Robert Sangster Classic in Adelaide at her last start. The immensely talented mare is in career best form having strung together three successive stakes wins through April and May.
