The 2017 yearling sales season has further franked the credentials of the China Horse Club’s international breeding program with a filly co-bred with Coolmore Australia topping the second day of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in Sydney, Australia.

The Fastnet Rock x Sevruga filly headed many buyers shopping lists but it was the highly successful owner, Alan Bell, who won out with a final bid of $A310,000. The weighty result follows on from outstanding results at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January and strong returns at New Zealand’s Karaka Premier Sale.

“I’m not a big filly buyer traditionally but I’ve got some colts at home now that I’ll need mares for in time so hopefully this one can run and justify the buy,’’ Bell told Inglis media after purchasing the filly.

“She’s a very nice filly out of one of the great families that I’ve long wanted to be involved in. Her athleticism and overall quality stood out to me, she looks like a beautiful running type of filly.’’

“She was an Easter class filly in this sale. I understand the stud left her in this sale because they thought she was on the small side as a weanling. But she has obviously made leaps and bounds and she still has a bit more growing to do. Very athletic, a good physical and she has all the quality that you want in a Fastnet Rock filly.”

The club’s program also delivered the highest priced yearling by boom first season sire Zoustar after two of the first three days of trading. The Zoustar x Cautious colt, bred in partnership with Segenhoe Stud, was sold for $A160,000.

“The Classic Sale has again delivered fantastic results and I’m delighted that both yearlings will have every chance to make their mark on the racetrack,” said Michael Wallace, Head of the China Horse Club’s Racing and Bloodstock division.

“Alan Bell is a wonderfully astute judge and we enjoy a fantastic relationship with him having bought into the outstanding Deep Field when he retired to Newgate Farm. And Justin Casse is an exceptional judge and has teamed up with Muskoka Farm to secure some quality yearlings. On behalf of Segenhoe Stud and the China Horse Club we are delighted that the Zoustar colt has made this list.”
