05072016 super one won

The commercial stallion credentials for former Singapore speedster Super One remain very real after he dismantled his rivals in the $A120,000 (RMB 575,000) D.C. McKay Stakes (1100m) and shape as a leading hope in the $A500,000 (RMB2.4 million) G1Goodwood Handicap later this month.

At his first start for 2016 the Lee and Anthony Freedman trained colt displayed all of the customary explosiveness that had him touted as the most promising young sprinter out of Singapore since the island’s iconic performer Rocket Man.

Under the guidance of jockey Daniel Moor, Super One immediately imposed himself at the start of the race to set a solid tempo and when given full reign early in the straight he held off his rivals before pulling clear over the concluding stages.

“That was encouraging to see, that is the Super One that dominated Singapore racing and was highly sought after as a stallion prospect for the Australian market,” said Michael Wallace, Bloodstock and Racing Manager, China Horse Club.

“Lee and Anthony Freedman have done a wonderful job with Super One having overtaken the management of the colt from their brother Michael. He looks to be on track for another tilt at G1 company now but let’s see how he comes through this contest first.”

Moor was glowing his praise post-race.

“[Super One has] come here today in excellent order and the scary thing is there is improvement to come. He’s had a good blow off that which you would expect. It might not have looked that impressive but he’s come home in 33 (seconds) and change,” Moor said.

“Riding for Lee and Anthony Freedman I’ve ridden some fast ones and potentially he could be the fastest. We identified last preparation speed is his best weapon and you need to let him roll along.

“He got there comfortably today and I thought if I could ramp it up from the bend they wouldn’t be able to run us down. He gives me a phenomenal feel, trackwork, trials and now on race day. He gives me a feel no other sprinter has and the world is his oyster. There’s improvement to come and the extra distance won’t worry him.”

Super One was purchased privately and is raced by a syndicate of leading breeders including Newgate Farm, WinStar Farm, Yarraman Park and the China Horse Club after winning each of his first four career starts by a total of almost 16 lengths.
