New Bay’s Bay City Roller added another feather to his sire’s cap with a dominant victory in the G1 Coolmore Coronation Cup at Epsom Saturday.

With a relentless light rain dampening the spirits of the top two betting choices, Bay City Roller thrived, keeping a close eye on the leading duo from third. Racing two off the fence under a motionless Oisin Murphy, the bay moved into second as pace-setting Illinois called it a day entering the far turn.

New leader Lambourn began to tire entering the straight and Bay City Roller moved way out to the center of the course. He gobbled up ground despite continuing to move outward under left-handed guidance from his rider. Murphy switched his stick in the final furlong and Bay City Roller charged clear to win by 10 lengths.

“That success was richly deserved for Bay City Roller’s owners, Victorious Forever, whose patience and ambition have been rewarded on the biggest stages,” said CHC’s Matt Houldsworth. “George Scott, Oisin Murphy, and Billy Jackson Stops deserve enormous credit for the way they have developed and campaigned the horse.”

Bay City Roller closed out his 2025 campaign with a victory in the G1 Grosser Preis Von Bayern in November. He opened his 2026 account with a pair of seconds in the G2 Chester Huxley S. May 8 and the G1 Curragh Tattersalls Gold Cup May 24.

The 4-year-old is one of four Group 1 winners for his sensational young sire New Bay, a son of Dubawi. China Horse Club bred and sold his first top-level scorer Saffron Beach, who captured the 2021 G1 Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot S. and the 2022 G1 Prix Rothschild.

“New Bay’s rise over the past few seasons has been remarkable, progressing from a promising young sire to one of Europe’s leading stallions,” Houldsworth said. “Through horses such as Bay Bridge, Bayside Boy and Saffron Beach, he has consistently produced top-class performers and this season he has continued that upward trajectory with Bay City Roller, whose Group 1 Coronation Cup victory at Epsom was another major milestone.”
