CHC homebred Caribbean Life got his career started off on the right hoof with a good-looking debut victory at Ellis Park Aug. 8.
Working well leading up to this unveiling, the son of Life is Good was sent off as the 9-5 second-choice in this seven-furlong maiden special weight. Breaking sharply, he stalked from second through swift early fractions.
Taking command in the lane, Caribbean Life easily shook free of his pursuers and rolled clear to score by 3 ¼ lengths. He is the 10th winner for his red-hot freshman sire Life Is Good, who currently sits second on the first-crop sire list.
Jockey Jamie Torres felt he had plenty left in the tank on the gallop out. Trainer Will Walden was so pleased that he plans to point Caribbean Life to the GIII Iroquois S. at Churchill Downs in September.
“It is always a little extra rewarding to win with a homebred,” said CHC’s Christie DeBernardis. “We have believed in this colt as much as we believe in his young sire. The sky is the limit for both of them and we are looking forward to the future.”
