Dissident
History was created last night when star sprint-miler Dissident was crowned Victorian Horse of the Year securing the China Horse Club it’s second Horse of the Year title in under a week. The achievement, announced at a glittering ceremony in Melbourne, comes just days after the club’s star mare First Seal was crowned NSW Horse of the Year. It is believed to be the first time an owner or syndicate has ever won both titles in the same year with different horses.
The five time G1 winner was singled out ahead of an elite peer group including Brazen Beau, Adelaide and Lankan Rupee to secure the premier award in the State. The two Australian based Horse of the Year awards are a unique achievement for a new racing organisation and create the opportunity for a clean sweep of the nation’s highest profile awards with the Australian Horse of the Year Award to be announced in October.
“In the next few days the China Horse Club will officially announce it’s next major event, the 2015 CECF Wuhan. The theme is China Dream: Racing to the World,” said Teo Ah Khing.
“Horses like Dissident and first Seal are allowing our members to dream and race to the world and we are blessed to be involved with them.
“To Henry Field, all the team at Newgate Farm and all of our fellow owners in Dissident this is a journey that all at the China Horse Club are delighted to be involved with. I saw Dissident yesterday at Newgate Farm and I couldn’t be happier with how he looks heading into the next phase of his career as a star stallion.”
Dissident’s selection as Victorian Horse of the Year came as no surprise to many. The Peter Moody trained four-year-old was imperious at times and certainly the most consistent older performer in Melbourne netting four G1s and a series of G1 placings.
Dissident is standing his first season at stud at Newgate Farm in the New South Wales Hunter Valley. He is fully booked at a fee of AUD35,000.
