Boom Singapore sprinter Super One is bidding to build on his imposing record with an historic bid this weekend in one of Australia’s premier speed events, the RMB2,300,000 ($A500,000) G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne.

The Australian born sprinter will be among a myriad of stars competing at what is arguably the biggest day of racing in the nation but there is little doubt his assault on the stallion making race for three-year-olds is unique. Singapore’s best performers rarely compete overseas and certainly not when so young.
The China Horse Club co-owned colt tuned up for the feature with a highly impressive trial down the Flemington straight late last week which left trainer Michael Freedman and jockey Hugh Bowman with the belief that their charge is on track to showcase his best. on the far left of screen in the red and purple colours scorched the turf over 800m in 45.16 seconds, the fastest hit out of the morning in what will be his most significant tune up before this weekend’s high profile event.
“Super One is in good order, I thought his trial was excellent, he did everything right and the blinkers helped,” said trainer Michael Freedman.
“Hugh [Bowman] said after the trial that he is a speed horse and that they have run good time and he right in that assessment. The trial has brought him on and he will be ready to run on Saturday.”
An imposing physical specimen, Super One is undefeated in Singapore where he has streeted rivals in four career starts by a collective 15.8 lengths and was crowned champion juvenile. It has seen him singled out as the most exciting sprinter in the country since its talismanic Rocket Man raced with distinction at international carnivals across the globe.
Super One is expected to race in front of more than 100,000 spectators this weekend at Flemington including several of the partners in this stallion prospect.
