The drive to continue creating multi-million dollar stallions has seen the China Horse Club begin 2016 with real purpose. An interest was secured in no less than 30 new yearlings at last week’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast (Australia) in a bid to continue its record as an investment ‘rainmaker’.

In 2015 members of the club enjoyed significant spoils when Press Statement, Pride of Dubai, Dissident and Johannes Vermeer all won elite G1 races and saw their collective values skyrocket by an estimated $US25 million – $US30 million (RMB165 million – 200 million). This quartet followed in the footsteps of Australia who, in 2014, became one of the most valuable thoroughbreds in the world.

“2015 was a very big year for the club with a number of stallion prospects stepping up and with members winning more races than they ever have before. We have continued to invest to strengthen our international racing operation further so we can build upon this success,” said Michael Wallace, Head of the China Horse Club’s Racing and Bloodstock.

“Last year we were very positive at sales in Australia, New Zealand, America, Ireland, Britain and France and we have stepped up again at the first sale of the year. The intention is to target races that can deliver future stallion prospects and, while you can never promise to hit such heights, the pool of yearlings we have secured is very exciting and provides our members with some unique opportunities.”

All 30 yearlings purchased last week will be eligible for next January’s $A2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic and most have been selected with stallion making races as prestigious as the $A3,500,000 (RMB16 million) Golden Slipper, $A1,000,000 (RMB4.6 million) ATC Sires Produce Stakes , $A1,000,000 (RMB4.6 million) Blue Diamond Stake and $A400,000 (RMB1.85 million) Champagne Stakes in mind.

“Races like the Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond and ATC Sires Produce are worth fantastic prize money but the real value is in the creation of a commercial stallion prospect if you can win one of these events with a colt,” Wallace added.

“We have seen how a colt can immediately become worth $A20 million (RMB92 million) to $A40 million (RMB185 million) in the commercial marketplace if they win a race like the Golden Slipper and we are endeavouring to give our members every chance to do that once again.”

The China Horse Club partnered with a number of different operators when securing its latest purchases and this will ensure members have opportunity to also race with elite businesses and individuals such as America’s WinStar Farm, Australia’s Vinery Stud, Malaysian billionaires Dato Tan Chin Nam and Ananda Krishnan and some of the winning owners of last weekend’s $A2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

A further two yearlings were secured in the final Saturday evening session bringing the total collection of new purchases to 23 yearling colts and seven yearling fillies, by a selection of the most commercial stallions in Australia.
