A full-sister to the China Horse Club’s 2015 G1 winner Johannes Vermeer has been born at Coolmore, Ireland overnight. The filly is the first foal for the New Year for the China Horse Club’s burgeoning international breeding program and among its most prized and valuable.

Johannes Vermeer is one of the most promising colts in Europe having claimed the G1 Criterium International in France when closing out his juvenile season on 1st November last year. The son of world champion stallion Galileo was co-bred by the China Horse Club and Coolmore and will be set for some of Europe’s premier three-year-old contests including guineas and derbies as he bids to build on a record of three wins and two placing from only six starts.

The success to date of Johannes Vermeer makes his little sister a very valuable commodity and any future success will see this valuation climb further. In time, this little bay will have her chance to leave her own mark on Europe’s racecourses.

“The early reports on her are encouraging. She weighs 123 pounds and there didn’t appear to be any complications,” said Mick Flanagan, the China Horse Club’s European Racing Manager.

“She will be closely monitored by Coolmore in the coming days. It is exciting to know that she has finally arrived. Hopefully in time she can follow in the footsteps of her brother Johannes Vermeer who looks to have a big 2016 ahead of him.”

The China Horse Club’s breeding interests span Ireland, the United States and Australia with the club building an elite commercial broodmare band across each of the major breeding and racing centres.
