Succession(no 4)
For the second time in five days the China Horse Club cheered home a lightly raced winner after Succession swept to victory in Singapore yesterday. The win of the three-year-old comes on the back of Freedoms streeting rivals by three and a half lengths in Australia at his first start back for 2016.
Succession, who was consistently hampered by bad luck and untimely interference in races in 2015, demonstrated his undoubted ability when given an uninterrupted run over a more suitable 1600m. Jockey Alan Munro settled the bay back in the field before sweeping wide around the home corner and allowing Succession to rip down the centre of the track and power on to a deserved win.
“Succession has been looking for 1600m and it was encouraging to see him deliver on the ability we know he has,” said Michael Wallace, China Horse Club’s Head of Racing and Bloodstock.
“James [Peters] has done a wonderful job with him and there is more to look forward to in 2016 as Succession continues to strengthen and learn his race craft.”
Succession has been wonderfully consistent in a short career for the China Horse Club’s Red Cosmos Stable. In six starts he has never finished outside the placings and there is every indication he will continue to build upon this record. The same can be said for Freedoms after his highly impressive performance in Victoria, Australia. The recently gelded sprint-miler showed great early speed to dictate in the Apm Group Maiden Plate (1400m) under the guidance of jockey Craig Newitt, before sliding clear of rivals upon entering the straight and opening up a wide marking victory.
“Freedoms was a little frustrating at times in 2015 but that win will hopefully give him some confidence,” Wallace said.
“He showed good tactical speed and acceleration and will improve further from that run. [Trainer] Mick Price believes he can extend his speed over a little further and hopefully he can continue to build upon that win this preparation.”
Trainer Mick Price is already planning for the next start for Freedoms which will be in Saturday company. One option is to step up in grade for a race in Adelaide, South Australia, a second is having a tilt at the $A100,000 Mornington Guineas.
“He was well ridden by Craig Newitt and did it well out in front for the entire trip,” Price said.
“I was pleased with his effort as was Craig. [Freedoms] has pulled up well this morning and we train on with him going up in distance now.”
