Olympic Anthem, named in honour of the enduring legacy of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, lived up to his mighty moniker on Friday evening when providing an explosive and inspired performance to record his fifth career win in only 11 starts since commencing his career in Singapore and his eighth win in all.
The chestnut dynamo carried top weight, was wide throughout in the 1100m contest but proved the most resilient when it counted to win in a five way finish to lift his career earnings closer to $S500,000 (RMB2.4million). It was a performance that is in keeping with his abundant talent and in keeping with his role as a talisman to inspire the Chinese people.
“We have named many of our horses in honour of the Chinese people to try and help inspire them and Olympic Anthem is one of the first we named,” said Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of the China Horse Club.
“When I envisaged a racing club that could meet the needs of the Chinese people this was one of the core values. To encourage the Chinese, no matter their background, no matter their age or their sex, to do great things and to look to leave an impression internationally.
“Olympic Anthem was named after the Beijing Olympics which was iconic. We also have Jiayuguan, a race mare from France who is now in Australia. She was named after Jiayuguan the ancient city where the Silk Road began. We have Shanghai Bund. We have Wimbledon, who we named to help inspire Li Na to win another major after her wonderful success at the French Open and Australian Open. we also have a young colt called Choreographer who we named to remind the world of all of the cultural virtues of the Chinese people which have been so important to human progress over thousands of years.”
Trainer James Peters continues to space the runs of Olympic Anthem, selectively targeting races in Singapore to meet the requirements of his performer who races best fresh.
