The China Horse Club’s international breeding program made an auspicious start to 2017 when the first yearling it sold was among the stars of the opening day of the first sale for the year – the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

An athletic Fastnet Rock x Graceful Anna filly was secured for $A400,000 by champion trainer Chris Waller and his bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster after spirited bidding from a cross section of suitors. The final sum was more than double the average for the opening day of trading.

The Fastnet Rock x Graceful Anna filly was co-bred by Coolmore Australia and the China Horse Club and carries on a line of results in recent years that includes the sale of a $1.3 million Fastnet Rock colt (2014), a $A760,000 for a Fastnet Rock filly (2015) and a $A400,000 Encosta de Lago colt (2014).

“The interest in the Fastnet Rock x Graceful Anna filly was certainly there and she was purchased by some fantastic judges. She will have a wonderful chance to live up to her ability under the care of trainer Chris Waller,” said Michael Wallace, Head of Bloodstock for the China Horse Club.

“Today was the first day of the first sale of the year and it felt similar to last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale. All the same people are here and the market feels very solid without being crazy. That is a positive for the long-term strength of the industry here in Australia and is encouraging for our breeding investments.”

China Horse Club was also active purchasing on the opening day securing two outstanding yearlings to add to the strike power of their Australian based racing operation. A filly by Sebring, the sire of the club’s champion racehorse and now sire Dissident, and a colt by Not A Single Doubt, sire of the club’s gun sprinter and future stallion Extreme Choice, topped the shopping list on Day 1.

“Two high quality yearlings have been secured to add to our racing program and we are delighted to have secured them. The Not A Single Doubt colt was purchased in partnership with Newgate Farm and WinStar Farm. We have some enjoyed wonderful successes with these partners both in Australia and the United States and hopefully this colt can extend these results on the racecourse and in the breeding barn,” Wallace added.

“The Sebring filly is very precocious, very natural and hopefully she can be racing in some of the feature two-year-old races in Australia in 2018. She is an exciting addition to our program.”

The Magic Millions is a partner of the China Equine Cultural Festival (CECF).
