After two days of exceptional sales results the China Horse Club flexed its considerable financial might to secure no less than five elite yearlings on Day Three of the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
Four colts were secured in partnership with Australia’s Newgate Farm and America’s WinStar Farm with America’s Stonestreet Stables also set to race a much in demand Snitzel x Ultimate Fever colt. A half-sister to the China Horse Club’s boom sprinter Russian Revolution was also a ‘must have’ item and will race in the club’s red and yellow silks.
All five purchases were snapped up with the concurrent sale of the China Horse Club’s final two yearlings at the Magic Millions. In all, six yearlings were brought to the Magic Millions to be sold with a 100 percent sales result generating a combined purchase price of $A1,720,000 and an average sales price of $A286,000 per yearling.
The four new colts secured on Day 3 will form part of the core of a stallion racing partnership and it was no surprise that the progeny of the outstanding sire Snitzel were very much in focus again. A Snitzel x Ultimate Fever colt and a Snitzel x Bondi Blonde colt join a Snitzel x Quench The Thirst colt (purchased on Thursday) with the trio certain to be given their chance to replicate the deeds of Snitzel’s current flagbearer, the above mentioned Russian Revolution.
A second son of Written Tycoon was also purchased as was a handsome son of the in-demand sire I Am Invincible. The five purchases for Day 3 are as follows:
Lot 549 Snitzel x Ultimate Fever colt

Lot 582 I Am Invincible x You’re Discreet colt
Lot 652 Smart Missile x Ballet D’Amour filly
Lot 678 Written Tycoon x Bloomingdale Miss colt
Lot 681 Snitzel x Bondi Blonde colt
“Our primary focus at yearling sales around the world is sourcing quality athletes and, in particular, colts who can translate their athleticism into race results and go on to become high class stallions at stud. Today has been a rewarding day with some very good colts added to our racing team,” said Michael Wallace, Head of Bloodstock for the China Horse Club.
“Buying in partnership with world class operators like WinStar Farm, Newgate Farm and Stonestreet Stables ensures that you have great support when working through the yearlings on the ground and then when bidding for them. We share a goal of excellence and we all liked these colts. If any of them can rise to the level of a Dissident, an Extreme Choice, an Exaggerator or a Russian Revolution then they become very valuable indeed.”
Wallace was also delighted with the markets reception to the club’s pool of yearlings offered at the Magic Millions. This was the first auction where the China Horse Club has sold in its own right with the ‘CHC’ brand prominent on a number of the yearlings presented for sale.
“We have worked hard to educate the marketplace that the China Horse Club is a seller as well as a buyer. We will be selling more yearlings throughout 2017 and our breeding program will see us sell a greater number of yearlings again in 2018, so it is an important to see that this message is being received,” he said.
