The Japanese based Fratelli is the latest quality performer to emerge from the China Horse Club’s international breeding arm after a relentless galloping display saw him gear down to beat rivals at Kyoto Racecourse by nine lengths.
The chestnut had led by as many as 15 lengths during the middle stages of the 1900m contest and never looked under threat from posting his second career win in only five career starts. Fratelli was bred and sold in 2017 in partnership with Australia’s Glastonbury Farm. The striking colt was the highest priced Frankel yearling to sell at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale that year with Katsumi Yoshida overseeing his purchase for AUD850,000.
The dominant display by the colt showed he has clearly benefited from a patient approach from trainer Manabu Ikezoe with his win only the second race start since August last year. Fratelli is the second promising Japanese based graduate of the China Horse Club’s Australia based breeding programme with Yoshida having purchased an Encosta de Lago x Melito colt from the Magic Millions in 2014 for AUD400,000. Subsequently named, Campbell Junior, he has won more than USD1.3 million to date with five wins and six placings from 20 starts. In 2018 Campbell Junior was a determined second in both the G2 Keio Hai Spring Cup (1400m) and the G3 Lord Derby Challenge Trophy (1600m) and will bid to improve upon those performances in 2019.
The China Horse Club is continuing to sell yearlings at major auctions in Australia throughout 2019 with four yearlings listed for sale tomorrow (Tuesday session) of the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale as well as premium drafts tabled for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
