Stay Inside
In a shade over 70 seconds Stay Inside affirmed his status as the best juvenile of his generation and its most valuable. His dominance of this year’s AUD3,500,000 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens (Sydney, Australia) was franked with a post-race assessment that his performance was one of the best in a Golden Slipper this century.
His victory lifted the China Horse Club’s tally of G1 win in Australia to 10 and worldwide to 36. A heady achievement secured in less than eight years since its first runner, Scarlet Moretta, raced and won in Victoria on 28th April 2013.
In just over 70 seconds, Stay Inside ensured he will be among the most wanted stallions in Australia when his career comes to a close. In time, he will join a stable of CHC’s stallions that includes Zoustar, Deep Field, Russian Revolution, Press Statement, Pride of Dubai, Vancouver, Flying Artie, Cosmic Force, Winning Rupert, Hellbent, Strasbourg and his own sire Extreme Choice. Fellow star colt, Artorius, will also be a future barn mate at Newgate Farm as well. But for now, there is racing and the glow that comes with achievement hard earned.

“This success is the culmination of what the China Horse Club is all about, of what we have been working towards for so long,” said Teo Ah Khing, China Horse Club’s Chairman and Founder.
“Competing and winning on the world stage. Sourcing future commercial stallions. Providing experiences that words cannot capture.
“There are so many people to thank for successes like Stay Inside’s Golden Slipper. Trainers Michael and Richard Freedman and [jockey] Tommy Berry delivered on the day but this achievement is also credited to Henry Field and the Newgate Farm team and to our bloodstock division at the China Horse Club who have steered us into a position like this.”
Fittingly it was the Freedmans and Berry who conjured success on the biggest of occasions. Collectively the Freedman family and Berry have been intertwined throughout the Club’s history. Anthony Freedman trained its first ever winner. Richard Freedman mentored the enigmatic and charismatic millionaire Auvray. And Michael Freedman and Berry elevated an aspiring young China Horse Club when delivering it its first G1 win in the 2013 Longines Singapore Gold Cup.
For the China Horse Club and partners the 2021 Golden Slipper was a triumph. They were represented by no less than three runners in the 15 strong field and at the close were elated with the results of Stay Inside (1st), Captivant (5th) and Artorius (6th).
Next month’s AUD1,000,000 G1 ATC Inglis Sires Produces looms large for the pool of quality juveniles representing China Horse Club’s interests. The race has been a rewarding one with Pride of Dubai (2015) and Invader (2017) among its honour roll. Its tilt for a third title is expected to include Tiger of Malay who bypassed the Slipper and the above mentioned Captivant. Decisions on Stay Inside and Artorius are expected in the coming days.
