Russian Warrior streets rivals by eight lengths

Russian Warrior has provided a suitable reminder of the quality of China Horse Club’s Australian breeding programme and of the growing credentials of young sire Russian Revolution when streeting rivals by a widening eight lengths at a metropolitan meeting in Queensland (Australia) yesterday.

The performance comes just weeks ahead of China Horse Club offering a further eight sons and daughter of the promising young sire across the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

Demand for Russian Revolution’s stock was unmissable at last week’s 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and with good reason. At the time of writing, the Newgate Farm based sire is the leading First Season Sire by prize money, co-leading First Season Sire by winners and his daughter Russian Conquest was narrowly touched out in the AUD2,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The buying bench at the Magic Millions zeroed in on Russian Revolution. He was the only stallion of his generation to have multiple yearlings sell for AUD500,000 or more and closed the auction with the highest average (AUD238,103) among sires with first crop runners on track.

Russian Warrior is not expected to be seen before the first of the China Horse Club’s next batch of ‘Russians’ is offered for public sale. The Allan Chau trained filly is expected to be prepared for a tilt at the high-profile Sydney Autumn Carnival as she bids to take her place in the AUD5 million G1 Golden Slipper.

“[Russian Warrior] is a tough little filly,” Chau said post-race.

“Last start she was very unlucky in a wide run on a heavy track but she stuck on well to only be beaten two lengths. I let them tell me [when they are ready to run]. She went home, she pulled up good and ate up, so she’s telling me she is fine.”

Sydney may see Russian Warrior clash with Russian Revolution’s current flagbearer Russian Conquest. The duo shared the honour of being the top priced yearlings by Russian Revolution in 2021 and are justifying that interest. The Peter and Paul Snowden trained filly exited the Magic Millions in good order and will be given five or six days in the paddock before starting a programme aimed at Australia’s major juvenile races.

“We will take [Russian Conquest] home and get her ready for the G2 Reisling Stakes,” said Paul Snowden after the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

“The breaks went Coolangatta’s way on Saturday and that was difference, I can’t wait to have another crack at her.”

China Horse Club’s Russian Revolution yearlings will again be offered as part of Sledmere Stud drafts, just as Russian Warrior was in 2021. The Club’s belief in the son of Snitzel has been unwavering both on and off the track and that has positioned it to present some exciting prospects to the market in 2022 and beyond.
