20220209-inglis front

For the second successive yearling sale this season, China Horse Club’s Australian division closed with new records realized as well as continued market endorsement of stallions in its portfolio. The three days of trading at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale were momentous, carrying on achievements realized at last month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

At the close, China Horse Club had realized new personal bests at an Inglis Classic Yearling Sale with:

  • A new sale’s high at UD300,000 (Russian Revolution x River Vixen colt);
  • A new record average of AUD187,500 (53% higher than the sale average of AUD122,612);
  • 100 percent sales results grossing AUD750,000

Further, its former colour bearers Extreme Choice and Russian Revolution were among the most popular stallions of the record-breaking sale. Extreme Choice reaffirmed his position as a dominant force in the Australian thoroughbred marketplace with colts setting and then resetting records in consecutive days for the highest yearling sale price ever at an Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Russian Revolution, the current leading first season sire by prize money, was also the standout of his generation. The Newgate Farm based sire was one of only five stallions to have multiple yearlings sell for AUD300,000 or above, joining an honour roll of heavyweights including the above-mentioned Extreme Choice, champion sire I Am Invincible, Capitalist and Deep Field. The market endorsement of Russian Revolution saw him finish the sale:

-        Leading second season sire by top price (AUD320,000)

-        Leading second season sire by average (AUD152,200)

-        Leading second season sire by median (AUD160,000)

-        96% sales conversion (25 of 26 yearlings offered were sold)

-        3rd leading sire overall by aggregate:  $3,805,000

“It has been another exceptional sale for China Horse Club and stallions that we have invested in and continue to support,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian Representative.

“We have now sold all 13 yearlings we have offered to market in Australia this season, grossed almost AUD5 million to date and are on track for a record season. It is especially gratifying that we are realizing these results with sires that we have such a close relationship with. It is a credit to the whole team and to Sledmere Stud who consigns for us.”

The Club was also active as it continued future planning for racing operations. The Inglis Classic Yearling Sale has previously rewarded with performers of the ilk of former Golden Slipper favourite and now sire Cosmic Force. In 2022, partners China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and Trilogy Racing were singular in their presale intentions. Having enjoyed Golden Slipper success with Stay Inside last year there was a particular focus on the sons of the exceptional young sire Extreme Choice. The syndicate were underbidders on the first of two notable colts which was offered on Day One but didn’t miss the mark on Day Two, parrying off rivals to secure a powerfully made Extreme Choice x To Dubawi Go colt for AUD825,000.

Newgate Farm’s Henry Field spoke on behalf of the syndicate when extolling the virtues of the record priced yearling.

“We have obviously got his sire Extreme Choice on the farm and we’ve got his best son in Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside back at the farm now, too, and I have been looking at father and son a lot,” Field told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“When I saw this colt [Extreme Choice x To Dubawi Go] I couldn’t believe the parallels between him and Stay Inside. They are absolute models of each other. I am very confident he will be a runner and, without question, he was my number one Extreme Choice who has gone to the market this year.”

China Horse Club has six mares in foal to Extreme Choice currently and doubled down on their belief in the sire when partnering with Malua Bloodstock to secure an Extreme Choice x Shippo filly for AUD150,000.
