The culmination of the 2022 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale has brought to a close the most successful Australian yearling sales season in China Horse Club’s history.
The club closed with record gross sales proceeds, a record clearance rate and record average across five key yearling auctions. Heady results for an operation in only its fifth year of its breeding/selling yearling programme.
“We had weighty aspirations heading into the 2022 Australian yearling sales season,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian Representative.
“We believed we had bred probably our best pool of young stock ever and this was coinciding with a marketplace that full of confidence and positivity.
“To have achieved the results we have is a credit to our team at The Chase and to our partner vendor in Sledmere Stud. It is also a credit to the vision of our board, headed by Chairman Teo Ah Khing, to invest in quality bloodstock and stallions, steps that have been essential to allowing China Horse Club to breed athletic, running commercial stock.”
Revolutionary Miss
The growing talent pool of high-profile graduates has demonstrated China Horse Club’s credentials to the broader market. The emergence in 2022 of star filly Revolutionary Miss (1st G2 Blue Diamond Prelude, 2nd G1 Blue Diamond Stakes), in concert with previous graduates Dame Giselle (G2), Marine One (G2, bred in partnership with SF Bloodstock and Matthew Sandblom), Global Exchange (G2), Meritable (2nd G1) and Giannis (2nd G1), instilled confidence. Supporting this further was a more targeted approach to the participation of the China Horse Club across the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Inglis Melbourne Yearling Sale, Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale and Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale this year.
2022 key statistics include:
- 2022 sales proceeds: Almost AUD10 million
- Clearance Rate: 97.2% (35 of 36 sold)
- Highest price colt: Zoustar x Pirapala colt (AUD1,300,000)
- Highest price filly: Zoustar x Nurse Kitchen filly (AUD750,000)
- Average: AUD274,142
- Additional Highlights:
- CHC’s The Chase, leading vendor by average at MM Adelaide
- Highest Lonhro yearling price AUD650,000 Lonhro x Ordos Honor colt
Zoustar x Pirapala colt was highest priced yearling for CHC in 2022
Zoustar x Nurse Kitchen filly was secured by Japan’s Katsumi Yoshida
One of the undoubted highlights in 2022 has been the successful launching of The Chase as a vendor. The facility, located in the NSW Southern Highlands, presented a select draft of yearlings at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale and closed as the leading vendor by average.
The clearance rate across all five yearling sales is a further achievement that is an achievement shared across personnel involved in mating planning, raising of stock, yearling preparation, marketing as well as closing at sales.
“The future is what you make of it and the China Horse Club continues to work across key revenue streams to master its own destiny. It is an approach which we have maintained since our inception,” Smith added.
“We are very fortunate that our racing programme, in partnership with Newgate Farm and partners, has sourced quality young stallions like Extreme Choice and Russian Revolution as well as exciting young sires in Stay Inside, Cosmic Force, Wild Ruler, Tiger of Malay.
“In addition, we moved quickly to participate in stallions like Zoustar and Deep Field. That investment is very significant but it has allowed us to access the best and present progeny of the very best stallions into the marketplace.”
