20230113-Front MM Sales

China Horse Club’s The Chase came out running with their inaugural draft of yearlings during Book 1 of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, which ran from Jan. 10-14. A dozen of the 13 yearlings on offer changed hands for a total of AUD$2.73 million and an average of AUD$227,500.

“The horses were primed for the inspection period and prepared by the staff at the farm to a tee,” The Chase manager Alex Kingston said. “They were all very well behaved and well received. I would like to thank all the staff at The Chase for all their hard work that went into the preparation of the yearlings and the support of the buyers at Magic Millions.”

The consignment was led by a son of CHC sire Russian Revolution (Lot 659), who summoned AUD $360,000 from China Horse Club’s syndicate partners Newgate Farm, Go Bloodstock, Trilogy, et. al. He was followed by a Zoustar colt (Lot 912), who brought AUD$300,000 from Chris Waller Racing and Mulcaster Bloodstock.

First season sires Cosmic Force and Strasbourg were both featured in The Chase draft and made strong showings. The first Strasbourg yearling to be offered at any auction, Lot 433, sold for 22x his young sire’s service fee, going for AUD$220,000. The Chase’s two Cosmic Force colts also represented their sire well with Lot 13 bringing AUD$240,000 and Lot 758 hammering for AUD$170,000.

“The Chase presented the first Strasbourg colt, who fetched 22x his sire’s service fee, which was a great result,” Kingston said. “The colt was a credit to the stallion, being a great physical and type with an exceptional temperament. The Russian Revolutions sold well, and we are poised for the stallion to have a fantastic year on the track. Our two Cosmic Forces were great types and should be great representations of the stallion. We are looking forward to following them in their careers.”

China Horse Club also sold a pair of fillies bred in partnership with Newgate. Consigned by that operation, a daughter of Alter Call summoned AUD$1.15 million and a filly out of Golconda brought AUD$300,000.

China Horse Club was very active on the other side of the ledger as well. Their colt syndicate was named leading buyer for Book 1 by gross, taking home 18 yearlings for AUD$10.1 million with an average of $561,111. The group’s purchases were topped by an AUD$850,000 son of Capitalist (Lot 109) from the Newgate draft and an AUD$800,000 colt by I Am Invincible (Lot 308), consigned by Yarraman Park Stud.

Unfortunately, Saturday’s races were canceled, including the AUD$2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic. Those races have been rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 19.
