G2 winning juvenile, Strasbourg, is set to make a splash at his ‘home auction’ when nine of his maiden crop of yearlings are presented for sale at the 2023 Inglis Premier Year Sale.
A striking son of reigning champion sire, I Am Invincible, Strasbourg is riding a wave of support from Victoria’s most progressive stallion operation, Rosemont Stud as well as a powerful assembly of breeders.
The Anthony Mithen led operation has demonstrated its credentials in ‘making sires’ having re-established the careers of Starspangledbanner and Shamus Award. The former, the sire of four individual G1 winners in 2022. The latter, now one of Australia’s preeminent stallions.
Rosemont’s belief in Strasbourg has been unwavering from his retirement to the showpiece operation. Upon announcing Strasbourg as a Rosemont Stud sire in 2020, Mithen summarized the assessment of many when highlighting the stature of his juvenile exploits.
“As a G2 winner, he’s the best performed juvenile by I Am Invincible to go to stud in Victoria since Brazen Beau. In fact, he shares the same two-year-old Timeform rating as the emerging Darley stallion,” Mithen stated.
The ensuing years have franked I Am Invincible as the most in demand sire in Australia. The growing profile of his own sire sons has also been unmissable and further fuelled his profile.
The above mentioned, Brazen Beau, (G1w More Bubbles; G2w Pretty Brazen; G2w Exploring; G2w Colada; G2w The Ridler etc), the first of I Am Invincible’s sons to retire to stud, remains a proven source of stakes winners despite never covering massive books.
Yarraman Park’s Hellbent (SWs Magic Time; SP Divine Glory, Hell I Am, Hell Queen, Miss Hellfire, Hell Hath No Fury, Bohemian Daisy, Warby, Awestruck etc) finished second on last season’s First Season Sire’s table and is currently No.2 on the Second Season Sire’s Table with a string of promising stock lining up in high profile events.
And boom prospect, Home Affairs, is seen by many hardened breeders as a ‘must have’ in their commercial programmes having stamped himself as arguably the second best sprinter in the world in 2022.
China Horse Club raced Strasbourg alongside Newgate Farm and partners and continued its association with the entire upon his retirement to stud. It will sell a Strasbourg filly out of the multiple graded stakes winner My Option (Lot 814 on the Rosemont Stud draft), having already realized a positive response with the first of his stock it presented to market.

“China Horse Club is one of many notable breeders who is supporting Strasbourg. We were delighted to sell our first Strasbourg yearling for AUD220,000 at the Magic Millions to none other than Duncan Ramage whose record of sourcing talent has few peers,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian representative.
“What is exciting is that the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale will present the best batch of Strasbourg’s stock to go to auction yet. The best I Am Invincibles are stamped with his physicality and it is no different with Strasbourg who was among his most precocious sons. There’s no doubt people are going to be taken by the athleticism and masculinity of many of his progeny.”
