It was all glamour and fashion on 23 May 2015 with the successful launch of the Etiquette Afternoon Tea by the China Horse Club and Robb Report. As China’s leading luxury lifestyle club with horses racing in eight countries worldwide, the CHC brand actively promotes the ‘king of sport’ to racing enthusiasts with the most discerning of tastes. Held at the L’Avenue, guests were treated to informative seminars on the long and illustrious history of thoroughbred racing in the West and how lifestyle, fashion and art are inextricably intertwined with the sport.

CHC’s Vice President of Business Development Jenny Yang and Robb Report’s Business Development Director Josh Zhang welcomed guests while Etiquette Training Director from the UK-based Seatton, Mr.  Jag Salh, gave a detailed explanation of the history and culture tied to the Royal Ascot. As the quintessential representation of British culture, the colourful and elegant horse racing carnival necessitated a dress code befitting of its stature and jaunty atmosphere. Hence, the informative seminar served as a most valuable and practical guide to guests in preparation for the upcoming event on 17-20 June 2015.

Of course, the subject of what to wear at such a colourful carnival appeals most to the ladies. Hat designer and Founder of Maison Lina Ma, Ms Lina Ma, brought along a variety of exquisite hats and facinators. With each signature piece featuring modern and unique lines, Ms Ma demonstrated how a single head piece could transform an entire outfit from drab to fab. Former supermodel turned Director, Donna Xie, donned hat after hat and showcased a perfect interpretation of the modern woman’s self-confidence and beauty, much to the appreciation of our female guests.

The event culminated with a highly interactive game simulating a horse owner’s experience on the racetrack. Giving all guests the opportunity to be a horse owner for a day, the game used a video clip of the Juddmonte Stakes and got the adrenaline going, allowing guests to experience the unparalleled joy and excitement of their own horses crossing the finishing line. It was all cheers and applause as the champions were presented with a well-deserved customised trophy from Yang and Zhang.

Champagne and conversation flowed in the VIP room with 40 guests indulging in the most creative hats, artisanal fashion accessories and exciting races. The Afternoon Etiquette Tea did not merely lend a fashionable slant to thoroughbred racing; it was the latest CHC event that has built awareness and interest in the Chinese to enjoy the thrill and fun of racing in its many forms.
