Fresh from blasting through the barrier of its 700th win, China Horse Club looks to have unearthed another star in the U.S. based Americanrevolution. The colt, raced in partnership with WinStar Farm, spreadeagled his rivals in the USD150,000 New York Derby at only his third career start overnight.

The margin of 7.25 lengths was testament to his dominance over fellow New York breds and gives champion trainer Todd Pletcher some breadth to consider what the second half of the season may hold. It was after all only the second start for Americanrevolution this year, coming off a six furlong (1200m) maiden win in June, and only the first performance under Pletcher himself.

“It was a very strong win by Americanrevolution. There is a lot to like about this horse,” said Michael Wallace, COO of China Horse Club.

“He jumped ok and tried to press early but the pace was very quick.  [Jockey Luis Saez] eased him back into third position, stalking the pace. At the half mile Americanrevolution moved into the ‘three lane’ and started to creep closer before mounting his challenge as they turned for home.

“I was impressed by how quickly he took charge before racing away for a dominant, wide margin win. It was a very good stakes debut. He is a progressive horse. We will see how he pulls up but we will raise the bar now with him against some of the better three-year-old colts.”

The emergence of Americanrevolution ensures Pletcher has some ‘CHC firepower’ in his kit in 2021. In addition to the handsome chestnut, Pletcher has G1 winning mare Valiance in his care and been appointed to trainer boom colt Life Is Good, the early Kentucky Derby favourite who missed the event after a minor setback.
