Flying Artie
Boom sprinter Flying Artie will take flight in this Saturday’s $A750,000 G1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes (1000m) in Australia as he bids to launch the China Horse Club’s racing team into the Year of the Rooster on the right note.
The world class colt headlines a two nation tilt in group races this Saturday and will be aiming to carry on a wave of success this week generated by winning stablemates Invader and First Command who were victorious in Sydney and Adelaide respectively yesterday.
Invader
Flying Artie will head into battle wearing the China Horse Club’s red and yellow silks for the first time having joined the club’s international racing team late last year. Across the Tasman in New Zealand, impressive debut winner, Aim Straight, will size up the G3 Phoenix Park 2YO Classic (1200m). Success for Aim Straight would have him poised to step up into G1 company either in New Zealand or Australia.
“Flying Artie was crowned the world’s best three-year-old sprinter in 2016 and of the stallion prospects available in Australia he was clearly the one that topped every stud’s shopping list, so it is exciting to see him make his 2017 debut,” said Michael Wallace, Head of the China Horse Club’s Racing and Bloodstock Department.
“The reports going into the race are positive, he has trialled well and he should put in a good account for himself. The G1 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes and the G1 Newmarket Handicap are his two early goals this year but the opportunities open to him are extensive, especially with carnivals like The Championships in Sydney, Royal Ascot in Britain and the new $A10 million The Everest in the spring.”
Flying Artie will be the first of three high profile sprinters to be unleashed in Australia this year with club stablemate Extreme Choice targeting the $A500,000 G1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) later this month and Russian Revolution preparing for a tilt at Sydney’s feature sprinters from March.

“It is exciting to have Flying Artie, Extreme Choice and Russian Revolution set to be unleashed in some of the world’s biggest sprint races, they are outstanding racehorses, they give us all so much pleasure and they are at the peak of their powers right now,” Wallace added.
“Everyone enjoys seeing elite athletes in action and we believe that these three colts are all in the elite bracket. They have to justify this billing every time they race but they done so in 2016 and the reports on the progress of each of them to date is certainly encouraging.”
