Australia’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale exploded into action and China Horse Club was front and centre as a vendor and co-purchaser. The club and its partners Newgate Farm and Trilogy Racing set the early tempo in the sale when securing a Zoustar x Vergara colt (Lot 5) for AUD900,000. Twenty Four lots later, China Horse Club returned as vendor, via Sledmere Stud, to sell the first of its four yearlings, a Zoustar x Yattarna colt (Lot 29) for AUD380,000.

A daughter of regally bred Crystal Flute filly (Lot 124) was the standout filly on Day 1 for star sire Pierro. The China Horse Club home bred was courted by a pool of potential buyers before leading Hunter Valley operation, Kia Ora Stud, secured her for AUD500,000. The filly is a half-sister to 2021 G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas runner-up Meritable and from the family of the late champion sire Redoute’s Choice.
Later in the afternoon China Horse Club / Newgate Farm / Trilogy Racing doubled down on its initial purchase to secure a precocious Written Tycoon x Hell or Highwater colt (Lot 210) for AUD850,000.

“Easter has been a happy hunting ground for the club and its partners in recent years with our programme sourcing and racing G1 winners Wild Ruler and In The Congo as well as selling the 2020 sale topper from our former champion mare First Seal,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian Representative.
“The market is exceedingly robust in Australia right now. The actions we are taking now are trying to leverage that strength for future years but we are not alone. So, we are trying to work harder and smarter to maintain an edge.”
The sales results continue a positive run for China Horse Club in Australia with its racing arm enjoying success first starters Czar (Tuesday) and Don’t Hesitate (Friday).
Czar settled worse than midfield under jockey Tommy Berry at Hawkesbury but rallied under strong riding to surge over the top of his rivals to score by three-quarters of a length. The debutant colt became the seventh winner for Russian Revolution who continues to dominate the first season sire standings. The win also coincided with Russian Revolution’s yearling filly out of star broodmare Abscond selling for AUD850,000, the standout sales result for stallions with first crop runners.
Don’t Hesitate controlled his race at Geelong from the front under senior jockey Mark Zahra. The three-year-old was a little wayward in the home straight but was refocused and pulled clear for a comfortable win.
