As the first yearling sale of 2022 kicked into overdrive it was to former CHC colour bearers that China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and partners turned to first as they looked to build a portfolio of future racing stars to supersede stallions-in-waiting Stay Inside, In The Congo, Artorius, Captivant and Wild Ruler.
No time was wasted as the syndicate zeroed in on the first lot of the sale, a striking Justify colt out of the former millionaire sprint-miler Eckstein, a multiple group winner and runner-up in the G1 Myer Classic. The colt is the first Justify yearling to sell in the Southern Hemisphere and his selection by two of Justify’s former owners feels appropriate.
Russian Revolution x Fast Return colt (Lot 41)
That purchase was promptly followed by the acquisition of a Russian Revolution x Fast Return colt (Lot 41) who looks to be another quality example of a young sire who is quickly making his presence felt in Australia.
“We always enjoy buying and selling at the Magic Millions and continue to enjoy success from its sales ring with performers of the standing of G1 Champagne Stakes winner Captivant and Magic Millions 3YO Guineas winner Aim among a list of stakes winners,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australasian representative.
‘Hope springs eternal. Coolmore’s Tom Magnier joins Henry Field, Teo Ah Khing, Gavin Murphy and Wilf Mula with the Justify x Eckstein colt.
“While we undertake extensive preparations for each and every sale, we did take special note of the first crop of Justify yearlings as well as the continued emergence of Russian Revolution whose first runners look exceptionally promising.”
The Justify and Russian Revolution colts were two of seven buys on the opening day of the 2022 Magic Millions Yearling Sale. It was not by accident that China Horse Club, Newgate Farm and partners were so aggressive on the first day of a full season of Australian yearling sales. The strategy of trying to secure the elusive ‘value’ by moving with purpose early has worked previously and it is hoped that over the following days and subsequent sales it is proven so again.
Before the end of trading the syndicate had secured colts by elite sires Zoustar, Savabeel, Spirit of Boom and Snitzel as well as a son of Blue Diamond Stakes winner and first season sire Written By.
