China Horse Club is throwing the full force of its support behind the exceptional Life Is Good in his maiden season at stud in 2023, bolstering its U.S. breeding stock by five at the close of the premium books of Keeneland’s famed November Breeding Stock Sale.
With the exception of Flightline and the club’s former talisman, Justify, rarely in recent years has a stallion prospect captured the imagination of an industry like Life Is Good.
“There is no doubting the credentials of Life Is Good. He is as high a quality individual, in terms of type, as you will see and his ability to sustain speed was aptly displayed at the Breeders’ Cup World Championship,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Representative.
“Our belief in Life Is Good is unwavering and our support will be as well. We have actively been targeting America’s best sales to supplement the elite mares we have for the purpose of ensuring Life Is Good is supported in a manner deserving of his potential.”
China Horse Club secured five mares over the opening days of the auction. Group placegetters Coastana and Lady Aces have been racing in great form and may continue racing in the immediate term before being retired to stud in early 2023. While the exceptionally well bred Ragged Rose and stakes producer Summer Solo will foal down to Quality Road and Essential Quality ahead of intended matings.

“Ragged Rose is a beautiful mare from a great family and in foal to Quality Road, who is nearly the best stallion in America,” Smith said.
“She is very clean, strong, good limbs, great action. She is very straight forward, everything you look for in a mare. She will complement him beautifully.

“The market is strong, but if you do your homework and keep sifting through them, you can find a bit of value as well. I think we bought well today. We got some really nice race fillies with stakes form as well as this mare with the big cover.”
Life Is Good takes his place on WinStar Farm’s 2023 roster at USD100,000 and stands alongside former WinStar Farm and China Horse Club raced Improbable, Audible, Yoshida, Nashville, Good Samaritan.
