Amid the waves of headlines being created at Newmarket, Lot 1170 slipped into the ring and exited as the third highest priced of 35 New Bay yearlings sold over Tattersalls record breaking Book 1 and Book 2 auctions.
The powerfully made individual was one of a select audience of yearlings bred by China Horse Club’s European breeding division to sell through the famed auction ring and represented the club well. A final bid of 320,000 Guineas seeing him secured by Blandford Bloodstock on behalf of emerging powerhouse Wathnan Racing.
“He’s always been a likeable colt,” said Matt Houldsworth, China Horse Club’s European Representative.
“He’s masculine, strong and looks fast. He is a quality representation of an outstanding sire. We felt he would be well placed in Book 2.”
New Bay x Siamsaiocht colt
The measure of the colt’s quality is best reflected in the return of his dam Siamsaiocht to Ballylinch Stud’s New Bay on the strength of his emergence. And there is pedigree to backup his looks. The bay colt is enjoying the rise and rise of his sire New Bay and is also out of the stakes placed mare Siamsaiocht who is a full-sister to G1 Dewhurst Stakes winner Parish Hall and G2 Futurity Stakes placegetter Hall of Fame.
Of the 35 New Bay’s to have traded over the first two books at Tattersalls, the high watermark has been set by a half-brother to Hong Kong champion Romantic Warrior and China Horse Club’s young mare Melodic Charm who was represented by a striking Dark Angel filly who was claimed by Nurlan Bizakov’ Sumbe for €420,000 – at the time, the third highest price ever realized for a Dark Angel yearling.
