A strikingly athletic son of Zoustar and a powerful I Am Invincible filly franked the value of the China Horse Club’s expanded breeding investment when both provided immediate dividends on the second day of the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in Australia.

The Zoustar x Rossarita colt became the most expensive of 20 Zoustars to sell so far at the sale when Sheikh Fahad’s Qatar Racing won out with a winning bid of $A510,000. The I Am Invincible x Princess Marizza filly was also in high demand before bidding closed at $A300,000.

Just over 18 months ago the dams of the two yearlings were secured in the very same sales rings as part of a strategic expansion in the club’s Australia breeding program. Rossarita was secured for $A280,000 and Princess Marizza for $A170,000. At the time of sale both mares were carrying these two high priced colts with yesterday’s results delivering an immediate 180 percent return on that investment before costs while still retaining the original assets.

“These are fantastic results for the club and are indicative of what we are trying to achieve for members,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President and Head (Partnerships/Membership).

“The China Horse Club provides business opportunities for its members and, after a 2016 where we enjoyed wonderful results with stallion prospects like Extreme Choice, Russian Revolution, Exaggerator and saw the emergence of new stars like Yellow Agate, Theory and Good Samaritan it is also rewarding to demonstrate that our breeding programs are successful investment opportunities as well.

“The investment in these mares have become profitable at the first opportunity and can continue to generate returns for years to come. It is a credit to our bloodstock team headed by Michael Wallace and the vendors that have prepared these yearlings that these results are being enjoyed today.”

Qatar Racing’s David Redvers, who purchased the Zoustar x Rossarita colt in partnership with Guy Mulcaster of Mulcaster Bloodstock was unequivocal in his praise saying: “He is a very nice colt. We loved him from the start and believe he is going to achieve great things.”

The China Horse Club’s investment into Australian bloodstock continued on Day 2 of the sale with the purchase of a Written Tycoon x Peppie colt (Lot 305) and a Snitzel x Quench The Thirst colt (Lot 348) which will race in partnership with WinStar Farm. The club has already enjoyed success with the progeny of Snitzel, most notably with its outstanding son Russian Revolution.
