China Horse Club has been recognized among a peer group of world class breeders at Ascot Racecourse’s annual Royal Ascot Winning Breeders’ Lunch.

It was the second successive occasion the European arm of China Horse Club was recognized and was only possible as a result of Saffron Beach’s exceptional display in the G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes which came less than an hour after State of Rest’s triumph in club colours in the G1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes. The Royal Ascot Winning Breeders’ Lunch recognized breeders from new and far headlined by industry heavyweights Godolphin, Coolmore and Juddmonte Farms.

“China Horse Club is honoured to be recognized among some of the international breeding industry’s most successful operations. We are immensely proud to be among the invitees for a second successive year thanks to the achievements of Saffron Beach and the team behind her led by Jane Chapple-Hyam,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President of China Horse Club.

“More importantly, an enormous debt of gratitude is owned to Ascot, to Chairman Sir Francis Brooke and his board, to CEO Guy Henderson and also to Hannah Parlett and her team for such an occasion. Recognizing breeders and the role they play at Royal Ascot deserves a collective applause.”

Saffron Beach annexed the G2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes in a performance of searing excellence, pulling clear of her rivals inside the final 200m despite her top weight before gearing down to win by just under four lengths.

It was a performance that affirmed Chapple-Hyam’s assessment that her stable star has physically matured and improved accordingly. It also ensured that the second half of 2022 will see Saffron Beach contest G1 company again.

Saffron Beach’s Royal Ascot heroics came a year after Perotto posted a gritty win in the Britannia Stakes. Notably, both performers are progeny of boom stallion New Bay whose rise continues season upon season.
