Construct as a yearling
Construct reaffirmed the weighty opinion of him at first asking as a three-year-old when overcoming a checkered run in the home straight to dominate his rivals in the AUD35,000 David Clout 3YO Maiden Plate (1200m) in Australia.
The regally bred colt had enough quality to contest the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes and start as a leading elect in the G3 Black Opal Stakes as a juvenile. Trainers Peter and Paul Snowden are likely to elevate their sights this spring for the colt after that slick win.
“That was a very good effort, he deserved that win,” said Michael Smith, China Horse Club’s Australian representatives.
“Construct competed against some of the best of his generation last season. We will sit down now after that win see how he has come through the contest and look at a plan that will see him competitive in stronger races.
“We are fortunate to have some quality three-year-olds on our team as we head into the spring so there is the opportunity to let Construct find his feet and realise the ability that is clearly there.”
Construct settled off the pace after drawing wide and turning for home he was spotting the leaders a considerable start. Champion jockey Hugh Bowman elected to come between runners and Construct was held up at the top of the straight at an inopportune time. But as soon as the son of I Am Invincible saw daylight he imposed his authority, quickly moving between runners and win running away.
