Daredevil
The China Horse Club’s involvement in the world’s biggest thoroughbred marketplace will expand further with G1 winner Daredevil retiring to WinStar Farm in the United States in 2016. The star colt is co-owned and was raced by WinStar Farm, Let’s Go Racing Stable and the China Horse Club and retires with a curriculum vitae littered with juvenile excellence.
Daredevil is the fifth star stallion to retire to stud for the China Horse Club in the last 12 months and the first in the United States. He joins a commercial stallion band that includes 2014 Epsom Derby winner Australia, who stands at Coolmore in Ireland, 2014/2015 Australian Horse of the Year Dissident, G1 winner Wandjina and boom sprinter Deep Field. The latter three all being based at Newgate Farm in Australia.

“WinStar Farm is a world class operation with a rich history of making sires and the China Horse Club is delighted to be continuing on this journey with WinStar Farm and Let’s Go Racing,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President and Head (Partnerships/Membership).
“Daredevil was a brilliantly gifted juvenile and our members and our club is excited by what the future holds for him and his progeny.”
A service fee is yet to be announced for Daredevil who retires with career earnings of $US424,000 (RMB2.7 million).
“Daredevil is the fastest two-year-old ever by More Than Ready, which is a big statement when you look at how successful of a juvenile sire More Than Ready has been,” said Elliott Walden, President & CEO at WinStar.
“More Than Ready is emerging as an important sire of sires around the world and it’s happening through his best juvenile sons like Sebring, who is the sire of recently-named Australian Horse of the Year Dissident.
“Daredevil was an extremely fast winner of one of the most important two-year-old races around, the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes, which has been won in recent years by horses like Uncle Mo, Union Rags, and Scat Daddy. I also love the fact that there are five Grade 1 winners under Daredevil’s first two dams. We believe he possesses everything to stand alongside his sire More Than Ready as an exciting son that has a big shot at carrying on that sire line.”
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Daredevil quickly showed his precocious talent with a 6 ¼-length debut win at Belmont in New York as a two-year-old, zipping through fractions of 22.07s (400m), 44.94s (800m), and 57.03s (1000m) before stopping the clock in 1:09.87 for six furlongs (1200m).
At only his second career start, Daredevil stepped up in distance and grade when tackling the $US500,000 Champagne S. (G1), a race won by iconic US sires Buckpasser, Seattle Slew, Forty Nine and Maria’s Mon among others. Despite sitting wide, Daredevil showed a blistering turn of foot to race away by two and a half lengths.
“Daredevil’s brilliance at two reminded me of Uncle Mo, and More Than Ready, and a lot of the better juveniles I’ve been fortunate to be around,” said Pletcher. “I have always thought the really talented two-year-olds went on to make the best stallions.”
