Exceptional colt Press Statement was officially retired to stud today as the only G1 winning two-year-old and three-year-old of his generation. An undefeated G1 winning two-year-old who developing into the nation’s premier three-year-old miler, Press Statement will join the roster of Vinery Australia in the NSW Hunter Valley this spring.

Peter Orton, Stud Manager at Vinery Australia, is exceedingly excited to add the two time G1 winner to Vinery Australia’s team this spring.

“[Press Statement] is right up there as the most desirable first season stallions about so the economics make sense.” Orton said today.

“Apart from his race record Press Statement is an outstanding individual and the first son of Hinchinbrook to go to stud. Hinchinbrook is a good young emerging stallion but one of his key assets is that he is a half-brother to Snitzel which is an important element from a new stallion perspective.

“Press Statement was unbeaten at two and the dominant winner of the Caulfield Guineas in the spring, that race acknowledged as a stallion making race. With his Group I record and physique we believe he has all the necessary attributes to succeed at stud.”

Press Statement campaigned almost exclusively at stakes level in an 11 start career, amassing more than $A1.8 million in prize money. His racing career enjoying a number of highs including:

  • 1st G1 JJ Atkins Stakes (1600m)
  • 1st G1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m)
  • 1st G2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m)
  • 1st G2 Stan Fox Stakes (1400m)
  • 2nd G1 Randwick Guineas (1600m)
  • 2nd G2 Run To The Roses (1400m)
  • 3rd G1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m)

Press Statement was earmarked as a potential star 12 months ago by both Vinery Australia and China Horse Club with the two breeding operations among those who bought a controlling interest in the colt. That faith was justified as the Chris Waller trained performer went on to become the star miler of his generation exhibiting enough talent to be seriously considered by an international racing campaign.

“Press Statement has all the attributes to become another great asset at stud for Vinery Australia and for members of the China Horse Club,” said Michael Wallace, Racing and Bloodstock Manager of the China Horse Club.
