Regally bred Falconet put paid to her narrow debut loss last month with a smart win in a USD100,000 Maiden Special Weight over the Keeneland Spring Meet yesterday.
The filly, co-owned by WinStar Farm and China Horse Club, looked in control as she came from just off the leader to close strongly and score by a widening two lengths. The daughter of Uncle Mo appreciated the step up in distance and franked the assessment of Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher who had been upbeat about Falconet’s first start performance and her subsequent progress into yesterday’s event.
“Falconet is a lovely filly and, importantly, she keeps meeting the goals set for her,” said Fabricio Buffolo, China Horse Club’s Regional Manager for America, LATAM and the Caribbean.
“We will see how she comes through this race before assessing where she goes next. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves too soon. Her dam, Birdonawire, continued to develop throughout her three-year-old season and hopefully Falconet can do similar.”
Falconet was a USD250,000 purchase at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale and a rare filly purchase for Winstar Farm and China Horse Club. The partners traditionally targeting elite colts and netting the likes of champions Justify, Life Is Good and Improbable.
