The G1 S$500,000 Singapore Guineas is very much on the radar for the China Horse Club’s talented three-year-old A La Victory after he posted a dominant win in the Royal Turf Club of Thailand Graduation (1200m) in Singapore this afternoon.

It was an encouraging return for the Michael Freedman trained gelding who looked to have the S$200,000 G3 CECF Singapore Prestige Classic on CECF Singapore Cup day in his keeping until ‘side-stepping’ inside the final 200m, losing all momentum and finishing a frustrating second. The winner of the G3 CECF Singapore Prestige Classic, Kiwi Karma, has framed that form by winning the G3 Dester Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint at his next start.

A La Victory still made some minor mistakes in the race today but a slick change of gears when required provided jockey Corey Brown with the luxury of coasting to the line inside the final 50m. The bay three-year-old had three-quarters of a length to spare on the line when posting his third career win in only seven starts.

“I think A La Victory has quality written all over him, Corey [Brown] feels the same. Corey can’t wait to get him up to 1600m in distance and I think he will be better again at 1600m and possibly beyond as well,” said Freedman after the race.

“I never like to make a decision on race day and I will see how he comes through this race, but I might look at finding a softer 1400m race for him at his next start than the G2 Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic on 17th April. He is still learning his craft and the experience in an easier race might help ensure he is right for the Guineas. The Singapore Guineas is the race we are focusing on. But I will think it over and talk with the owners.”

A La Victory was the second winner in as many starters this afternoon in Singapore after Arrowhead saluted for the CHC’s Prince Racing Stable.
