In The Congo
Exceptional sprinter In The Congo has taken his preordained place at stud in Australia’s Hunter Valley after it was confirmed this evening that he will be retiring to Newgate Stud.
The China Horse Club / Newgate Farm / Go Bloodstock syndicate raced colt closed his career as a G1 winner, by a G1 winner, out of a G1 winner with career earnings of almost AUD1,800,000. He will commence stallion duties this spring at an introductory fee of AUD33,000 (inc. GST).
A summary of his exceptional career spells out his inherent commercial appeal as a stallion:
- Highest Timeform Rated three-year-old by Snitzel in last five years, higher even than Champion 1st and 2nd Season Sire Russian Revolution
- 1st G1 Golden Rose in race record time
- Defeated champion Anamoe (9 G1s), Artorius (2 G1s), Paulele (G1), Mazu (G1) and champion 2YO Stay Inside (G1) in a career defined
In The Congo: Highest Timeform Rated 3YO by Snitzel in last five years,
higher even than Champion 1st and 2nd Season Sire Russian Revolution
“Since the inception of China Horse Club, in association with our members and our partners, we have aspired to source elite colts who can race and win at the highest level and go on to make their mark at stud,” said Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of China Horse Club.
“In The Congo has delivered on that objective in every sense and retires to Newgate Farm with the full support of an ownership group that includes China Horse Club, SF Bloodstock, Sir Owen Glenn, Matthew Sandblom, Trilogy Racing, Nick Vass and others. We believe his future is wonderfully exciting.”
Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse, who trained In The Congo in partnership with Adrian Bott, was no less evocative in her assessment of the colt’s undoubted qualities.
“He just had brilliant speed,” Waterhouse said.
“Brilliant gate speed and he is tough…He is exactly what Australian racing is all about; a fast, tough colt and he will make a great stallion.”
In The Congo joins fellow China Horse Club colourbearers State of Rest and Artorius at Newgate Farm this season. State of Rest has already been announced at an introductory fee of AUD44,000 (inc. GST). A fee has yet to be announced on Artorius who is being set for a second tilt at Royal Ascot this June.
