Harriosn Point ride by jockey Hollie Doyle in CHC silks
Harrison Point is likely to be steered back towards stakes company after shaking off his rivals to secure a third career win at Ayr yesterday. The China Horse Club home bred became the ninth winner in July for the Club and its sixth in quick time in Britain.
The Archie Watson trained chestnut joins other recent British based winners including Surf Dancer (stakes win – 19th July), Cobh (5th July), Bondi Sands (26th June), Cognac (21st June) and Pawpaw (19th June).
Harrison Point was given an astute ride by jockey Hollie Doyle who kept him outside the heels of the leader through most of the race. The hoop slide forward to be outside the leader turning into the straight and, as a series of runners lined up to fight out the race, Harrison Point kicked clear before posting a comfortable win.
“Hollie gave Harrison Point a very positive ride, he was in the contest from the start and he put his rivals to the sword in good style,” said China Horse Club’s Matt Houldsworth.
“We will get him home and give him an easy week. The long-term plan is to target black type races in France. If we can secure some black type it will not only benefit him but we also own the dam so it will enhance her credentials as well.”
Harrison Point finished fifth in a blanket finish in the Listed Prix de la Californie (France) in February, a performance that justified a tilt at the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot. Yesterday’s win is likely to see Watson review planning for the four-year-old over the second half of the year to find suitable stakes races to target in France.
Harrison Point is the first foal of out former French stakes winner Summer Surprice who saluted in the Listed Grand Prix du Lion d’Angers and was second in the Listed Chantilly Prix Charles Laffitte.
