Mydalea(no 11)

Lightly raced filly Mydalea became the latest winner for the China Horse Club when scoring in Queensland, Australia yesterday. The Robert Heathcote trained runner carries on a great run for the China Horse Club which has now won 21 since the start of the year.

Mydalea, who ran a good second on debut, overcame a wide draw and being trapped three wide to circle the field and race away from her rivals. Jockey Michael Cahill was kind on her over the final stages as she geared down to win by three-quarters of a length.

“It was an encouraging performance from Mydalea at what is only the second start for her. She overcame a number of hurdles as well as some bumping at the start of the race and won comfortably,” said Eden Harrington, General Manager of the China Horse Club.

“Mydalea will have learnt a lot from that performance. A great effort from Rob [Heathcote] and his team once again and a great ride from Michael [Cahill]. Hopefully Mydalea can continue on her winning ways now.”

Heathcote is no stranger to success with the China Horse Club. The Brisbane based mentor won three races for members of the China Horse Club when overseeing the career of Olympic Anthem. The now Singapore based performer was also fourth in the G2 Queensland Guineas for Heathcote when one of five runners that hit the line in a blanket finish.

Yesterday Olympic Anthem was having his third career start in Singapore. Already a winner on the Asian circuit, he ran on resolutely under top weight for second, beaten only a neck.

“I have been impressed with [Mydalea’s] level of improvement since she came to us. A lovely attitude and willingness to improve,” Heathcote said.

“She has come through the run well. Nice and bright this morning and she ate up well. Good signs going forward.”
