EC x Penang

Extreme Choice x Penang

CHC broodmare Penang (NZ) added a timely racetrack update to her page on Magic Millions Day (Jan. 17) when her son Hawker Hall (Russian Revolution) proved too sharp in the Aquis Park Gold Coast Magic Millions Class 6 Plate (1200m), taking up the running and kicking clear before holding his margin to the line.

Called up after Jason Collett was stood down, James McDonald said the plan was simply to let the gelding use his natural speed, noting: “I learned that from Nature Strip and I rode him (Hawker Hall) like that.”

Performance analyst Daniel O’Sullivan subsequently placed Hawker Hall’s win among his top-rated winners of the weekend, highlighting the horse’s early speed to cross from a wide draw, the sustained tempo, and the mid-race move that created the winning break before he held on late. Trainer Kris Lees has previously flagged the G1 Galaxy this autumn as a potential target.

Further, Penang’s commercial appeal was reinforced earlier in the week when her Extreme Choice colt (Lot 666) was knocked down for A$700,000 to the China Horse Club/Newgate Bloodstock colts partnership from The Chase draft at the 2026 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Newgate’s Henry Field liked what he saw, describing the colt as “a powerful colt for a November foal” with “really good natural strength, good scope and good movement,” adding that “any time you’ve got a good example of an Extreme Choice you’re a live chance for having a proper horse.”

While Penang did not have a foal in 2025, she is back in foal to Extreme Choice this season.
