Press Statement stamped himself as one of Australia’s premier sprint-milers when streeting rivals by three lengths in the $200,000 (RMB900,000) Dyldam Stan Fox Stakes (1400m) in Sydney, Australia yesterday. The win was the fourth for the colt in six career starts and further franks the assessment of investors such as the China Horse Club and Vinery Stud who singled him out as a future stallion prospect at the end of his two-year-old career.
The $1,000,000 (RMB4,500,000) Caulfield Guineas is squarely in the sights of trainer Chris Waller in two weeks time with Press Statement who will bid to become the latest colt to use the Dyldam Stan Fox Stakes as a stepping stone to the blue riband event.
The bay became the 13th individual stakes winner for the China Horse Club and the G2 Dyldam Stan Fox Stakes became the 107th win for the club after a week of success started by Olympic Anthem (102nd win) in Singapore eight days ago and was followed by a trio of wins in China at the CECF Wuhan with Outpost (103), Commengy (104) and Endzone (105) and a debut win for Grand Cross (106). Later in the afternoon the CHC’s tally of wins was elevated to 108 with General Zabeel.
“The importance of results like Press Statement cannot be underestimated. He was singled out as a stallion prospect in the same manner as Dissident and Pride of Dubai were and, like them, he has gone on to win graded stakes races. The next step is the Caulfield Guineas,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President and Head (Partnerships/Membership).
“This is the first win we have shared with Vinery Stud. We race a select number of colts with them and this is a fantastic start to our partnership. We share their belief in Press Statement and see him as an important part of our business moving forward.”
Waller was equally positive when talking about the Caulfield Guineas.
“We can go to Melbourne with a bit of confidence now,” the trainer told media after the win. “[Press Statement] has done plenty of work left-handed and he’s a very adaptable horse. I’m sure we’ll be prepared well enough to represent NSW in the Caulfield Guineas.”
Press Statement is a half-brother to the G1 winner Pressday who died prematurely having been sold for stud duties.
