Despite being challenged by odds-on favourite Valac, the three-year-old, Hans Holbein, showed a good turn of foot and action to clear out and win.  Jockey Joseph O’Brien drove the horse to a two and three quarter length victory.

“He relaxed well and got an easy lead. He seems to handle a little give in the ground and I think he can step up in trip. He improved plenty from Cork and hopefully he can progress again,” said O’Brien.

Owned in partnership with John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith, Hans Holbein shows potential and will likely be steered towards lead up races to one of the derbies.

“Hans Holbeins win is a great start for our team in Ireland this year and sees the ownership that had so much enjoyment with Australia in 2014 celebrate another success,” said Eden Harrington, General Manager of China Horse Club.

“Aidan continues to do a wonderful job with these colts and hopefully Hans Holbein can continue measuring up to more serious assignments as the year rolls on.”

The win came after Wimbledon put the finishing touch on the week-long celebrations when he served an ace and won by two lengths at Singapore’s Kranji Racecourse on 10 April. Wimbledon was the sixth winner in seven days which started on Easter.
