North Dakota(no 9) leading the race

The ‘race to a century’ is now on in ernest after North Dakota and Shanghai Bund delivered imperious wins within hours of each other. The successes in China and Singapore respectively moved the China Horse Club to 99 wins and created immediate anticipation among members as to which horse in which country may deliver the century of success.

North Dakota etched a unique piece of history for Hubei Province and the China Horse Club when delivering a second gold medal at the 10th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities in the People’s Republic of China.

On Wednesday Endzone secured the first gold medal for Hubei during its 62 year involvement in the Games and a second gold confirmed Hubei as the dominant force in thoroughbred racing in China.

“It is a heady result and one full of symbolism,” said Mr Teo Ah Khing, Chairman of the China Horse Club.

“Hubei is a growing force in China. It is a province that continues to invest heavily in education and is a proponent of thoroughbred racing as a driver of job creation, new industry and as a creator of opportunities for young men and women in this country. We are excited by that and are delighted to have played a small role in Hubei’s success this week.”

The significant of Hubei being crowned the champion province in China during the Games is expected to be celebrated in the coming weeks, especially at the 2015 CECF Wuhan, the feature thoroughbred racing meeting which both the China Horse Club and Wuhan Jockey Club are collaborating on.

North Dakota dominated the Ulanqab Cup (3000m) streeting his rivals by a widening margin after shaking clear of them rounding the home corner.

Shanghai Bund’s victory a few hours later may not have created the same waves of national significant but it was celebrated by the club with equal fervour as it brought the tally of wins by members to 99. With a touch more luck the century may have been accomplished over the weekend. Orbec (Australia), Burnt Sugar (Britain) and A La Victory (Singapore) all finished second prior to Shanghai Bund’s victory with the first two touched out in photo finishes.

“It has been a memorable weekend in every sense and immensely rewarding to share with members in locations around the globe,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President and Head (Partnerships/Membership).

“This week Endzone and North Dakota have created another piece of history for our club. Many of our international partners and friends may not fully appreciate the significance of the Minority Games but the repercussions of these two wins this week could be very exciting and could help further promote opportunities within the sport in China. If our horses can encourage people to participate, win new people to the virtues if racing and create future opportunities that is exceptional. It is one way we are trying to contribute here.”
