Zoustar x Capella filly
It is a measure of the quality of the Zoustar x Capella filly that Star Thoroughbreds has only once stretched further to secure a yearling out of the Magic Millions ring in the last five years.
The bay graduate from the China Horse Club’s Australian breeding programme was one of two yearlings offered for sale by The Chase on the third day of trading at 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. And like the three yearlings that have proceeded her and a So You Think x Crystal Flute colt who followed, she was highly sought after and sold to a leading operator.
The AUD400,000 price tag realized by the Zoustar x Capella filly eclipsed the marks of some of Star’s current headliners Espiona (1st G1 Coolmore Classic), Kiku (1st G2 Theo Mark Stakes) and Chrysaor (1st G2 Callander-Presnell). Only the promising juvenile Canara (AUD410,000), who has placed in her only two appearances behind the leading AUD3,000,000 Magic Millions 2YO Classic contenders Storm Boy and Spywire, has realized more.
“Star Thoroughbreds and Brett Howard’s Randwick Bloodstock are exceptional judges who source elite stock every year out of this ring. Their resolution to secure the Zoustar x Capella filly today is a great accolade from both The China Horse Club and The Chase,” said Mike Smith, China Horse Club’s Australian Representative.
“We will follow the progress of this filly with great interest and hope that she can deliver for Star Thoroughbreds and her new owners as so many in the purple silks with white stars do.”
So You Think x Crystal Flute colt
Later in the day the team of Peter and Paul Snowden secure a So You Think x Crystal Flute colt from The Chase (AUD325,000) ensuring that all five lots offered to date have found new homes. The colt is from the famed Redoute’s Choice family that has repeatedly generated elite performers.
“This is a really, really nice horse. I like him from the first time I touched him,” said Peter Snowden.
“He has a massive overstride and that is a big telling factor for me. So You Think needs no introduction, he is a leading sire and [this colt] is out of an Encosta de Lago mare and he is one of the best broodmare sires we have in Australia.
“For me he just ticks every box. He is a great mover and these horses train on. Good attitude to his work. Great pedigree.”
