The opening day of the thoroughbred racing at the 2015 Minority Games in Urdos, China began in an encouraging fashion with the China Horse Club with its two entrants in the Ulanqab Cup (1000m) both finishing on the podium. Flaming Aura and Outpost finishing second and third respectively in the short course event, setting a tone for what the club hopes will be a positive week.
Outpost, the 2013 Sir Owen Glenn Sprint hero, controlled the race during the early stages from his inside barrier. At the top of the straight jockey Qin Yong gave him some rein and the chestnut opened up his advantage on his rivals. Stablemate Flaming Aura settled worse than midfield from her wide draw under Liu Xue and was spotting the leaders a big start into the straight but produced a blistering final burst to rattle home for second.
“Congratulations to Mengjun who won this race today, they have a fantastic sprinter. That said we are immensely proud of our two runners Flaming Aura and Outpost. It is a tremendous result to have two runners competing in a race of this significance finish in the first three placings,” said Eden Harrington, Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Sponsorship.
“Outpost was having his first race in a long time and Flaming Aura was drawn wide so we knew this event was going to be challenging. Our entire team has done a fantastic job and I know from the feedback we are receiving that our members are certainly excited by this result.”
CHC has a further three contenders to race over the Minority Games with Endzone, North Dakota and Villequier primed for this high profile national event. Endzone, the dominant performer in China over 2000m in 2014, will again be competing over his pet distance while North Dakota and Villequier will bid to extend on the CHC’s success over 3000m at recent events.
“The next few days will be very exciting. It is a great privilege to be a part of an event of the significance of the Minority Games,” Harrington continued.
“I know our team has prepared well for this, our trainer, our jockeys and our staff are very positive and there is every reason to go into these next few races with a positive mindset.”
