Talk of the Nation
CHC homebred Talk of the Nation (Quality Road), owned in partnership with Joe Allen, scored his first stakes win in style in Tampa’s Columbia S.
Hammered down to 6-5 favoritism off a good-looking first turf try at this venue last out, the bay was off a hair slower than the rest from the far outside post, but quickly tugged his way up to establish position. Stalking from a two-wide fourth through the early stages, Talk of the Nation ranged up outside the leaders with a quarter-mile left to run. Switching his lead in the lane, he kicked it into high gear, charging clear for a decisive victory.
“Talk of the Nation proved his last effort on the grass was no fluke Saturday, racking up his second good-looking victory on the surface,” Christie DeBernardis, CHC’s Regional Manager of the Americas, said.
“A stakes victory is important to the career of any horse and is also important for us as his breeders as we still own both his dam and his 2-year-old half-sister. With several major turf races coming up in New York and Kentucky, he should provide us plenty of excitement.”
Trainer Shug McGaughey reported Talk of the Nation exited the race in good order Sunday. The Hall of Fame trainer will take his time to determine the next start for Talk of the Nation.
The son of Quality Road has won three of his four career starts. He captured his debut on dirt in New York last year, but has proven the grass is more to his liking with a pair of stellar efforts at Tampa.
Talk of the Nation is out of She’s Not Here, who is in foal to MGISW Life Is Good. He hails from the family of Zenyatta, which is the same female family as GI Kentucky Derby contender Confidence Game.
