The most successful buyer of Savabeel yearlings in history zeroed in on a crack colt offered by The Chase at the opening day of the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and refused to leave without it.

David Ellis, the driving force behind the immensely successful Te Akau Racing, has sourced no less than seven of Savabeel’s 32 individual G1 winners. It is an honour roll that is as impressive as it sounds, one made up of a Horse of the Year, outstanding juveniles, elite milers and exceptional classic performers.

DAVID ELLIS’ G1 SAVABEEL YEARLINGS:

  • Probabeel                          (New Zealand Horse of the Year & 3-time G1 winner)
  • Embellish                           (1st G1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas)
  • Cool Aza Beel                   (1st G1 ARC Diamond Stakes)
  • Noverre                              (1st G1 NZ Two Thousand Guineas)
  • Amarelinha                       (1st G1 NZ Oaks)
  • Sword of Osman              (1st G1 ARC Diamond Stakes)
  • Prise De Fer                      (1st G1 Captain Cook Stakes)

The high-profile syndicator saw all the key qualities he needed in Lot 65, a Savabeel x Purcentage colt that was raised at The Chase as part of the China Horse Club’s highly successful Australian breeding programme.

20240104-01David Ellis could not leave without the Savabeel x Purcentage colt

“He looks like a guineas sort of colt,” Ellis summarized to Breednet post-sale.

“We would like to think he could go to Melbourne and run in the G1 Australian Guineas and those sort of races.

“We are ecstatically excited about the day we have had. We have bought five absolute rippers.”

Savabeel’s credentials are well explained but the Savabeel x Purcentage colt is not the owner of a ‘top heavy’ pedigree. The athletic colt is a half-brother to the exceptional millionairess Revolutionary Miss, a multiple group winner and twice touched out in G1 contests, and fellow stakes winner Equation.

The colt was one of two offered for sale and sold by The Chase on the opening day of trading. The Southern Highlands based nursery will offer a further nine yearlings over the coming days.
