Just days after another of its colts, Militarize, graduated as a G1 winner from its buying and racing programme the syndicate of China Horse Club / Newgate Farm / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy Racing zeroed in on three colts during the opening day of the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Inglis’ showpiece yearling auction has been a fertile source of elite racehorses and stallions for the syndicate who will be hoping this years haul can produce a candidate or candidates to join past graduates Russian Revolution (2015), Wild Ruler (2019), In The Congo (2020) and Tiger of Malay (2020) who all transitioned through the sales ring to the Newgate Farm stallion barn.

Newgate Farm’s Henry Field, who manages the syndicate, shared some insight into the first of the three purchases when speaking post sale to Inglis’ Jemma Cutting.

“We see him very much as being in the Wild Ruler mould,” Field said of the Snitzel x Carry On Alice (SAF) colt.

“He’s from a champion South African mare, as was In The Congo, and I have the utmost respect for [breeder] Arrowfield and we love buying from them.”

Among the purchases was a Zoustar x First Seal colt who was among a select draft of three offered at the sale by The Chase on behalf of China Horse Club. The athletic individual was one of two colts offered and sold on the opening day with Richard and Freedman taking home a Zoustar x Inspired Estelle colt (Lot 178) from the family of former Australian Horse of the Year Lankan Rupee.

In addition to acting in the colts’ syndicate, China Horse Club also moved to secure arguably the best bred filly of the sale. Mike Smith fended off repeated challenges to win the day and walk away with Lot 201 an I Am Invincible x Listen Here filly who is a half-sister to three stakes winners headlined by outstanding sire Deep Field, G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win and Zaniah.

“Saturday we quinellaed the Sires and we’re back reinvesting,” Mike Smith told media post purchase.

“This filly is strong and square, she looks very sharp a real Aussie sprinter. We’ve had luck with I Am Invincible fillies. We raced Dame Giselle with Sir Owen Glenn, hopefully she can do something similar.”
