Jiayuguan is named after the old Chinese city that saw traders begin their journey on the famed Silk Road to exotic lands and hoped for riches. The chestnut mare has hinted that she may also hold the promise of rare rewards and CHC members have had every reason to simply cry ‘Jiayou’ (cheering on in Mandarin) as she strung together three wins, a second and a fourth from her last five appearances. Once leggy, the chestnut grew into her frame in 2015 after putting on about 40kg of muscle, and her connections have every reason to dream big in 2016 as John Thompson learns more and more about her. The $A1 million Sydney Cup, $A300,000 G2 Brisbane and even possibly the $A6.2 million Melbourne Cup are on the wish list. Racing is about dreaming and Jiayuguan encourages us all to dream the dream.
