2016 George Ryder Stakes 1

In a perfect storm for Australian racing, three of the nation’s highest rated racehorses are set to clash for the first time in Saturday’s $A1,000,000 G1 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.

Winx, Chautauqua and Le Romain are among 13 elite performers currently listed in the top five placings of the LONGINES IFHA World’s Best Racehorse Rankings. Racing’s megawatt star Winx is acknowledged as the equal-best racehorse on the planet, Chautauqua the equal-highest rated sprinter in the world, while triple G1 winner Le Romain and Epson Handicap hero Hauraki add further depth to a contest that is expected to draw the attention of the international racing world.

“The China Horse Club’s association with excellence continues with the running of the $A1,000,000 G1 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes this Saturday. This event is capturing the imagination of racing fans locally and internationally and is in keeping with our club’s ethos of ‘Racing to the World’,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President, China Horse Club.

“Importantly, our association with the George Ryder Stakes also reinforces our club’s commitment to the thoroughbred industry in Australia. Our members are great believers in the sport here and with their endorsement we are working to strengthen the relationship between the thoroughbred industries of China and Australia.”

The China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes is one of three Australian Turf Club (ATC) stakes races the club is sponsoring in 2017. Saturday’s feature follows on from the running of last month’s G2 China Horse Club Breeders Classic, while the G3 China Horse Club Carbine Club Stakes will be run on Day One of The Championships. The ATC is currently a partner of the China Equine Cultural Festival (CECF), China’s leading lifestyle and thoroughbred racing event. In 2017 the CECF Race Day will once again be held at China’s flagship racing facility, Ordos Yiqi Racecourse.

ATC Chief Executive Darren Pearce said the China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes was among the top ten rated races in the world.

“The ATC is delighted to continue its association with the China Horse Club through the G1 George Ryder Stakes,” Mr Pearce said.

“The China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes continues to be one of the most prestigious races of the year and its honour roll features many champions.

“This year, the world’s best horse on turf, Winx, defends her crown against some of the very best sprinter milers, the world’s highest rated sprinter Chautauqua, multiple Group One winner Le Romain and Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki.

“China Horse Club is growing in international racing and we look forward to continuing to strengthen Sydney racing with their support.”
