The G1 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes has been crowned the world’s highest rated mile (1600m) race in 2017 at a glittery ceremony in London. The feature race was recognized by the International Federation for Horseracing Authorities at the Longines World’s Best Racehorse Awards.
The G1 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes, which is run in Sydney by the Australian Turf Club, was awarded the highest rating race in its division joining other international feature race winners such as the G1 Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (2400m) and Dubai World Cup sponsored by Emirates Airlines (2000m).
“The recognition of the 2017 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes is very rewarding for our club and our members who remain focused on the promotion of elite racing around the world,” said Eden Harrington, Vice President (Chairman’s Office) of the China Horse Club.
“This is the second year in succession that the China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes is the highest rated race in Australia. It is to the credit of the Australian Turf Club that they have continued to build the profile of this event and that it is a feature on the club’s Golden Slipper programme every year.”
The 2017 G1 China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes was won in imperious fashion by wonder mare Winx. Her triumph, the second in succession, was the signature performance for the calendar year for the Magic Millions bred mare was anointed as the world’s second highest rated racehorse in the world, the world’s highest rated turf horse and the world’s highest rated filly or mare for 2017.
The China Horse Club George Ryder Stakes was one of five Australian Turf Club races to be ranked among the world’s top 50 race events.
